Mortgage Rulebook
Federal rules make mortgage offers comparable: a standardized Loan Estimate within 3 business days, mostly binding, before you pay more than a credit-report fee. This site explains those rules and publishes what borrowers actually paid, county by county.
I am Dan Swenson, a data nerd who is also a Minnesota workers' compensation attorney and a city council member. I build these sites as a hobby to make public records, government rules, and license registries easy to find and use. The tools are free. The network pays for itself through disclosed referral links and a few optional paid guides.
More about why I build these
Mortgage Rulebook is an independent educational site and is not a lender, broker, or law firm. Nothing here is legal or financial advice.
Referral disclosure: a few clearly marked links on this site (quote marketplaces, agent matching) may pay this site a fee. Each one carries its own disclosure where it appears, the fee never changes what you pay, and no lender or service pays to appear in the data tables or to be described a certain way.
Rate and closing-cost data: computed from the FFIEC HMDA Modified Loan/Application Register public data (ffiec.cfpb.gov). See the methodology page for filters and definitions.
